The Caribbean coast is divided into two regions the North Caribbean and the South Caribbean.

NORTH CARIBBEAN surf spots goes from Barra Del Colorado to the Pacuare river mouth: This zone has not been explored very much by surfers but many believe there is a high probability of waves with great potential between Barra Del Colorado and Tortuguero. Access is extremely difficult since the area is abundant in vegetation and wildlife like crocodiles, sharks and turtles among others.

SOUTH CARIBBEAN surf spots goes from Surf Spot N° 89 Fertica up to N° 120 Gandoca-Manzanillo: This area is well known for having two world-class waves. Isla Uvita, which is an island with a reef bottom located in front of Puerto Limon, can be accessed only by boat. Then we have Salsa Brava, which is a right and left point break, located in Puerto Viejo, 60 km North from Puerto Limon. The best months are December and January. Although these months are very rainy the waves tend not to be so great after the rain. Because of the majority of waves being reef bottom powerful, this place is not recommended for beginners.
