Capitanía Del Puerto
The Old Port Captaincy was a lookout post that had been established to have a better view of the sea and the islands of the gulf. At present, it is a site for information and tourist attraction, offering visitors a space to carry out activities, exhibitions and artistic displays.
In 1850, a tile, palm, adobe and mangrove box was improvised to observe the area and attend to travelers, selling tickets and inspecting merchandise.
In 1938, during the administration of León Cortés, the current captaincy was built; where the import and export was administered. With a colonial style, it is located next to the entrance of the pier.
In the past, as in the present, this site houses government employees from different institutions such as INCOP, as well as from the tourism and public security area.
With a symmetrical design with a perfect correspondence between the large windows and doors on the two levels.
It has a perimeter corridor and balcony, both with prefabricated railings. The floors with a geometric and floral decoration.
In 1994 it was declared an architectural heritage since October 25. In April 2008, the Costa Rican Tourism Institute reopened it as a tourist services center.
