Jose Luis Guzman Somarribas. He was born in Puntarenas on October 22, 1956. Named after his parents, Mr. José María Guzmán Gómez and Mrs. Rita Delia Somarribas Quesada, he has 7 siblings. He started surfing in 1971 when he was 15 years old, and he wanted to surf because he liked to go to the beach and when he met Doña Ana beach, and I saw that some were already surfing and practicing surfing there.

The first feeling when standing up and surfing for the first time was something unique. He got his first board with a friend of the pope who lived next to where my father worked in Puntarenas, they nicknamed him Cataricho. His beginnings in surfing were in Playa Doña Ana, Puntarenas, Costa Rica. In its early days I surf, with Frank Mora (q.d.e.p). Cundino mouth Barranca. With one from San José who was called Bear. With Jesús (CHUZ), from Boca Barranca he lives next to the river bridge in Boca Barranca, also with Jerry Jones, Jorge David Fuentes Chino, Mario Sotela arrived, and others whose names I don't remember. I participate in 3 surf tournaments in Costa Rica, in one I passed first in the first round, another time it was in Hermosa Jaco and we got lost in a paddock arriving at the beach, there were no hotels there yet, on another occasion in Playa Langosta neither there were hotels and on that occasion I left without participating because there were no waves, and I never liked participating because there was a lot of ring between the acquaintances.

He is known in the world of surfing as CHOVEVA. On one occasion in Doña Ana there was a swell of about 10 or 11 feet in front of the inn, I took the first wave and I had a board that inflated at the tip and only had one keel and it was so big that I skidded and took a wallow I hardly go out. At that time we did not have Lynch, what was used was a nylon rope garter. A good memory was at Doña Ana beach there were big waves with north and he got into a tube of the inn until a big stone that comes out there. He is married to Mrs. Shirley and has 7 children all Costa Rican. his style of surfing is right foot forward.

Meet Costa Rican surfers; as his great friend Oscar Eduardo is called Nica lives in El Roble. Puntarenas, Frank Mora (q.e.d.p), Mario Sotela, Oso, Cundino, Jerry Jones, a foreigner who lives in Boca Barranca. The Surfing of before, that of its beginnings, was Surfing from the heart, the waves were enjoyed. Today's Surfing, a business sport, do not enjoy riding a wave for wanting to do flips and jumps. I would recommend to a Surfer of today, who enjoys riding a wave, to try not to fall and play with it.

You described to us what the area where you live was like.

When you arrived, it was a desolate, healthy place with lots of vegetation. At 62 years old, he likes to SURF, but the problem now is that there are many thieves who come to the beaches to see what they take, and the appearance of many crocodiles on almost all the beaches where one cannot rest easy. On one occasion about 5 years ago he was at Corralillos beach in Caldera and he was riding waves and when he came out he saw that a crocodile was walking there, and that it was walking in the water along the beach. That is why now there is very little about the danger of these animals.
