How to arrive and leave

By Bus

The exit from Monteverde to Puntarenas 04:15 a.m and 06:00 a.m and from Puntarenas to Monteverde 06:30 a.m and 04:30 p.m. The internal bus to Santa Elena 06:00 a.m, 07:30 a.m, 09:30 a.m, 11:30 a.m and 01:00 p.m and to Monteverde 06:40 a.m, 08:00 a.m, 10:40 a.m, 12:00 m.d and 02:00 p.m

From the Interamerican via Santa Elena and Monteverde to the south, the first turnoff is the Rancho Grande, 18 Km to the northeast of the Puntarenas exit, the Rancho Grande bar is located here, and a signpost shows the way to go to get to Sardinal, Guácimal and Monteverde, both on the right hand northern side of the highway, where you will find the gas station. The second exit is 100 meters before of the Río Lagarto Bridge, passing 149 Km, you take a turn off on the tarmac road and you travel for around 35km, passing by several small villages until you get to Santa Elena, there you will continue direct until you get to Monteverde, at 15 Km to the northeast of the Rancho Grande. There is also a signpost:  These two roads join onto the road to Monteverde, both are straight but have potholes and stones. A third road passes through Las Juntas de Abangares, and is asphalt but only for a few kilometers. From Tilarán take the tarmac road from Cañas or you can also, if you are from Arenal take the one that borders the Arenal lagoon until you get to Tilarán, continue the route until el Dos de Tilarán and then you will pass by Cabeceras. This point is located 45 minutes away from Santa Elena continue for 1km until you get to Monteverde.

Terminal de Autobuses a: Monteverde-Esparza-Miramar-Guacimal-Tilarán-Liberia.
Diagonal to the beach and the San Jose bus terminal, there is a bus stop where buses leave to many nearby villages.There are 15 daily buses that go to Miramar, close to the Wildlife Refuge of Peñas Blancas and others to Esparza that leave every hour. With departures to Liberia 04:40 a.m, 05:30 a.m, 07:30 a.m, 09:30 a.m, 11:00 a.m, 12:30 p.m and 02:00 p.m. Other buses leave at 11:45 a.m and 04:30 a.m to Tilarán; a bus to Guacimal to 01:00 p.m; and another to Santa Elena de Monteverde 02:15 p.m. The buses that travel to Quepos can leave you in Jaco, departing 05:00 a.m, 11:00 a.m, 02:30 p.m and 04:30 p.m.
